One of the first mistakes I made when blogging was neglecting to have a newsletter. I considered it a dumb idea and something that belongs on a sales page. However, I was wrong in many ways and have since learned my lesson. Here are a few reasons why you need to sign up for a newsletter service.

They Give Your Readers More Options

I have learned the readers love options. They love to be able to subscribe via RSS, email, Twitter, or newsletter. The more options you offer, the more likely you are to have something for everyone. This is a great way to get more subscribers because you are catering to everyone.

They Are Simple

A lot of readers of your blog may have no idea what an RSS feed is. On my personal blog, I have a ton of readers that do not use RSS feeds as a way of subscribing. Therefore, giving them a simple option of signing up by newsletter is a must. This will give your non-techie readers a way of staying up to date with your posts and news.

They Creates A List of Potential Customers

If your into blogging for the money, then you NEED a newsletter. A newsletter is a great way to promote affiliate products, your own products, or anything else that has come out. Loyal readers that have subscribed to your newsletter are much more likely to buy something.

They Bring Readers Back To Your Blog

Lets face it, most people are really busy. A lot of times, people forget about your blog and do not come back for awhile. Having a newsletter is a great way to remind people about your blog. A great way to get your readers back is to send out a simple newsletter once a week wrapping up all your posts and linking to them.

I start using this feature on my personal blog and have seen more visitors each time I send out a newsletter. If only I had started this earlier I would of had a lot more subscribers.

They Look Professional

Many large companies utilize newsletters as a way of informing customers of news and products. Having your own can make your blog look and feel much more professional. It is definitly a great way to separate yourself from other blogs in your niche.

They Give You The Option Of Giving Something Away

Last but not least, is the ability to give things away. It is a common practive to give things such as ebooks away when people sign up for your newsletter. The best part of all, is that the newsletter can be automated to have a download link or pdf including within it. Therefore, newsletters are one of the best ways to distrubute products to your readers or customers.

So Take My Advice And Start A Newsletter

If you do not have one, I highly encourage you to sign up for one. I have used a few free newsletter services in the past but ended up moving over to Aweber for the ease of use. It offers a ton of options and it well worth the $20-$30 a month that they charge for their services.
